Selamat Hari Ibu Malaysia!

Bagi yang jauh, telefonlah ibu anda dan spend a little more to speak to her longer today.

Amin.

Happy Federal Territory Day

Bendera Rasmi Wilayah Persekutuan

Kal El wishes all Malaysian living in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lu
mpur, Putrajaya and Labuan a happy holiday!

Some info on the FT from Pandapedia:

Bendera

Wilayah Persekutuan memiliki bendera rasminya yang sendiri. Bendera ini telah mula digunakan pada 23 Mei 2006. Sungguhpun begitu, bendera-bendera milik setiap wilayah masih dipakai guna.

Of Politics and Dog Food

I hope I won't be caught under ISA for this piece of opinion.

Someone claimed some food served somewhere tasted SIMILAR to DOG FOOD. I just wonder - this person pernah ke rasa dog food since dia tau rasa makanan tu SIMILAR to DOG FOOD. Being an animal lover, having 7 cats of my own, their food isn't at all cheap - if they are not cheap they musn't be tasting that bad.

My cats eat food that are more expensive than what I eat on a daily basis. These are cats - dog food are far more expensive. Go get any dog food brochures for that matter, they are made mostly of fine and healthy ingredients consisting of vegetables, meat and more (Tengok aja iklan Whiskas on TV lately ni, even I don't eat that complete diet in my meals!) I wonder lah what this person is serving  her dog lah, that is if she has one at home kan? If that's the case, pity the dog.

Sapa Kata Makanan Anjing Tak Sedap?
Hanya Dia Sahaja yang Kata Begitu...Mungkin Sebab dia DAH Rasa...

My point? Don't simply say things because you have to say or point out something is bad. Think before you open your mouth. Then having the guts to make a statement denying what you have said to the reporters earlier (soon after the media immediately aired the statement she made using the word SIMILAR to DOG FOOD - come on they are the media, have you heard of video and voice recorder before?) This proves your credibility as a leader. Even if you're angry you should not to create a stir on such trivial matter. You are not put in a 5 Star hotel, so accept the fact. It's good enough there were no maggots in your meals and what's so bad about eating two boiled eggs, some kuah and rice? Our forefathers ate ubi during the Japanese occupation - they lived!

My opinion, those people in those kind of places deserve that kind of food they are served perhaps as a punishment for their wromgdoings - sapa suruh buat jahat kan? Dah buat jahat then you expect to be served tasty food kah? I don't want the money I pay for tax being fed to those people - call me indiscriminate or cruel - as long as they are not served DOG FOOD - or perhaps that lady was really served DOG FOOD ke? That makes my cereballar stroke affected brain thinking suddenly.

Cukup-cukup la tu. Bosan tau with Malaysian politics!

Happy Birthday Malaysia & Salam Ramadhan

Assalamu'alaikum.

Alhamudlillah I am back from Holy Mekah hoping for positive changes in me and my life. Syukur everything went well except for some glitches to my health but thankfully there were KN and other members of the group who had morally supported me. I am currently trying to catch up with the things I left these past couple of weeks and InsyaAllah will continue writing as usual after I have readjusted my schedule, hopefully soon. Have been down with fever and coughing madly ever since I came back a week ago. Many thanks for your prayers and I think it is not too late to wish everyone Happy 51st Independence and Salam Ramadhan Al-Mubarak. May Allah bless.

Durians @ Taman Melawati

The Murah Ones (above) and the Expensive Ones (below)

Every Durian season, this place would be full with the King of Fruit's lovers including me. Well, as a diabetic, I shouldn't be even smelling the aroma of the fruit, shouldn't I? Ah, what the heck -I wouldn't be calling myself Malaysian if I am deprived from eating and smelling the lovely Durians! True?

What's most important is that at this place in Melawati town, Durians are in abundance and are sold cheap too. They may not be the best deal like the ones you may find outside KL but buying here is a real bargain - even the 4 for RM10 would be a good treat for 2 - good for us KLites who seldom get the chance to taste Fresh Kampung Durians sold by the road side in Pahang or Penang for example. What's more? You can choose to have the fruit dine-in as they have tables and chairs set up for those who doesn't want their cars (and homes) to smell of Durian for the rest of their lives (hehehe kidding...). Furthermore this way, customers are assured of good quality and best tasting Durians as they are opened and consumed there and then. Any complaints and grievances will be entertained in real time!

The Fruit Stall Just Opposite

Nearby is a stall selling all sorts of fruits making this area a one stop centre for Malaysian Fruit lovers in Taman Melawati and surrounding areas.

Of Indonesians and Teh Tarik

I have been away training a group of Technologist from Indonesia the whole of last week. I had a good time training them even though it was really tiring since I could only afford about 30 minutes of sleep to prepare for the 5 days session. They were demanding and surely had a lot to ask and it was quite a tedious work trying ti impress and fulfill their expectations. Alhamdulillah the training went off well and I received very positive feedback from them during the closing session yesterday. Among others they were talking about sending more participants to be trained and the possibility of a JV in their development work. InsyaAllah.

Of the 5 days I couldn't help but smile at the fact that they loved Teh Tarik so much. I have been to Indonesia several times and yes, they do not serve tea with milk, what more Teh Tarik! What they are familiar with are the famous teh botol or teh kotak. We had a free flow teh tarik during the training (not a real mamak style teh tarik though but the Aik Cheong 3-in-1 packets) and since they loved it so much they were asking me where we'd bought the 3-in-1 drink - so I promised to get them a packet each to take home to Indonesia. I even told them to try the real deal at one of the mamak restaurant nearby the office and they loved it!

It's actually wonderful to know that a simple local drink like Teh Tarik could attract followers from afar. I wonder if the next time I am in Indonesia I would somehow find a restaurant selling Teh Tarik eh? Heheheh

Air Mata Kucing @ Petaling Street, KL

Do you know the best Mata Kucing (Longan with brown sugar) drink in KL (or perhaps in the whole wide world)? Yup its @ Petaling Street - a stall right at the crossroads in the middle of Petaling Street. Real tasty!

They Used to Serve in Steel Bowls... Now in Paper Cups

I have been coming to this stall ever since I was in High School in the early 90s and every time I was on my way back from college in the mid 90s I would definitely drop by for at least 2 bowls of their cold Mata Kucing served in cold steel bowls...how refreshing! Unfortunately now they have replace the metal bowls with paper cups...

The Twins

I got this particular habit or liking for Pisang Kembar from my late mom. I can gadoh with anyone to get my hands on the twins.

I believe in the myth that if you consume Pisang Kembar you'll be rewarded with a set of twins when you're married - perhaps only applicable to women la kot but I don't care lah.. BTW omputih orang panggil apa ek Pisang Kembar ni? Siamese Twin Banana ke? Sebab tu I like Pisang Kembar so much hoping that I would get a set of twins la kononnya... and the fact is I do have that gene in me (My father's a twin).

Ngggaaaaap!

Oh God, just imagine the satisfaction of two bananas in your mouth (I really mean bananas ok!)

Jemput-jemput Bawang

Can anyone tell me why Jemput-jemput is called by some, Cekodok? I don't see any resemblance of the food to a frog. And why in the world would anyone name their food after such slimy and hideous creature?

Look at the Onions... Yummy!

Anyway, I was in my very rare mood to cook and last weekend I had a sudden craving for Jemput-jemput Bawang...with LOTS of thickly sliced onion. I would usually crispy-deep fry them so that they become real crunchy on the outside but soft in the inside with thick pieces of juicy onion. I love dipping these Jemput-jemput Bawang with chili sauce. Yummy! Now, isn't Jemput-jemput a nicer name for such a delicious traditional food?

Happy Father's Day

To all fathers, especially my dearest Papa, Happy Father's Day! Thanks for the life, the love and the care that you've given me all these while. I am especially proud of myself for telling Papa "I Love You Very Much" today, not on a greeting card but uttered with lots of love. Also Happy Father's Day to Ayah in Shah Alam. Both KN and I love you so much.
