Selamat Hari Ibu Malaysia!

Bagi yang jauh, telefonlah ibu anda dan spend a little more to speak to her longer today.

Amin.

Happy Birthday Abang Amal!

It's KN's elder brother's 34th birthday - hehehe sama umur ngan Kal El cuma he's older by 7 months. Amin...

Steven's Corner Banana Leaf Restaurant, Pandan Indah Bersama Sapit

I went to this restaurant last year (yup this is a back dated post) with my brother Sapit before my heamodialysis session at Hospital Ampang. Ahahah sebelum cuci darah mesti makan busat dulu!

I've been eying this place for a very long time - each time lalu pergi hospital, tiap kali la Kal El berangan makan sini. KN and I have been here once tapi tak kesampaian makan nasi daun pisangnya sebab it is only served between noon to 3pm daily. We came a little later than 3pm and tak dapat la makan masa tu. InsyaAllah satu hari nanti Kal El ajak KN makan sini.

Kalau nak compare Steven's Banana Leaf Rice dengan Kanna Curry House di PJ or di Kepong, I think Steven's serve a more authenthic and tastier banana leaf rice.

We both ordered warm barley. The rice came with four instead of the usual three types of vegetables at other places, two types of sambal whichi I do not know what they're called, rasem and tairu (given without being asked) and the other usual condiments like the dried chilli and pappadom.

That is Sapit (pic above) waiting for his rice. Sapit ordered fried chicken to go with his banana leaf rice and I as usual ordered the Masala Chicken.

It was indeed a complete Nasi Daun Pisang set and I could tell Sapit enjoyed it very much because dia tambah nasi dua kali. Of course the best way to have this type of meal is by indulging with lots of curries on your rice - that was what exactly I did. Try la this place... sedap woo!

Rasem and Tairu

Oh yeah, Steven's Banana Leaf Restaurant is at Pandan Indah - take the junction to Hospital Ampang in Pandan Mewah, it's on the left side of the road - you'll never miss it.

Happy Birthday Ka'Ngah!

Wishing a dear aunty a 75th Birthday - May Allah bless you. Ka'ngah. thank you for all the love and tender loving care you've given us these past 34 years. You sacrifice means a lot to us. You're forever the best!

Happy Birthday Sapit!

To my dearest brother who turns 22 today, Happy Birthday dear bro. Even though our age gap is tremendous, we rock together. Thanks for everything. Thanks for the love and care. Allah bless you always.

Nandos KLCC Bersama Intan

KN and I ngan my sister in law Intan were at Nandos KLCC for dinner one day. I love going to Nandos for their tasty Peri-peri sauce - of course yang paling sedap is their Garlic Sauce and the Hot Flaming Sauce.

Per-peri Sausage

Since Intan was on diet, she ordered the Peri-peri Sausage - not bad tasting and filling too (according to her lah, my tummy don't think so).

1/4 Chicken with Coleslaw and Fries

I of course ordered the Falimg Hot 1/4 Chicken with Fries and Coleslaw as the side dishes - memang every time datang sini ini lah yang Kal El akan order plus dashes of their yummy Peri-peri sauce. Nasib baik lah dorang letak sebotol kat situ (one time they sorta kedekut with the sauce and I ended up not going to Nando's anymore tapi now dah ok dah) Usually I would order Rice as the sideline tapi hari tu entah kenapa teringin makan fries plak, takmo makan nasi kot - diet la konon. This dish came in a set; a bowl of Mushroom soup and a glass of carbonated (from the fountain, refillable) drink. Tapi kan cakap pasal refillable drinks kat Nando's ni, mana-mana Nando's Kal El pegi memang susah gila nak mintak refil air dia.

CHicken Kebab with Rice and Potato Salad

KN on the other hand had the Chicken Kebab with 2 Sidelines. Here KN ordered Rice and Potato Salad as the sidelines. Forgot to ask KN whether it was nice or otherwise.

Here's a photo of the Peri-peri sauce I love so much... siap beli bawak balik tu tapi tak tau nak makan ngan apa pulak.. hehehe.

Happy Birthday Mummy!

If Mummy was still around, she would have turned 62 today. We've been celebrating our birthdays together since I was a baby (mine will be tomorrow InsyaAllah) I will forever cherish today as the most important day in my life. How I miss sharing my cake with you Mummy and ever since I was deprived of a birthday with you four years ago (you left less than a month before our birthday came), my birthday has always been celebrated with tears but this year I promise I will celebrate both our birthdays like we used to. I promise to celebrate it with a big smile in your remembrance.

Happy Birthday Mummy... Al-Fatihah to you dear mom.

Sodomi, Bontuti, Al-Liwati

Kalau Abang Habib ada buku terbaru pastinya kaum keluarga diberi dahulu. Raya lepas kami sekeluarga dapat la buku terbaru Abang Habib ni ahahahah gelak besar sampai terbabas kami semua baca tajuk dia - ada ke patut wahai abang saudaraku! Of all his books, ni lah tajuk buku yang paling kelakar dan mungkin paling catchy sekali - I vote this as the most creative book title he has ever come out with cuma I personally think lebih sedap bunyinya kalau 'Buntuti' instead of 'Bontuti' ekekeke.

Well, if you ever ask me whether I read ke idak buku-buku Abang Habib ni, jawapannya TIDAK. I am not so into political writings and commentaries, sekadar simpanan ala-ala koleksi satu set buku Syed Hussein AlAttas tapi kekadang tu menarik juga kalau browse through the photos and snippets dalam buku dia ni.

Hillside Corner Restaurant with Along

I was at Hillside Corner Restaurant again and this time was there with along and my one and only nephew. Orang belanja, takkan nak tolak kan? Heheheh. No particular occasion just two adik-beradik trying to catch up and update each other with current happenings. Moreover along and I live in the same building (we happen to have bought a unit on the same block, the same floor only different wings) tapi kami jarang berjumpa - almaklumlah masing-masing sibuk memanjang.

The Garlic Bread

As usual, bila dah di Hillside Corner Restaurant I would definitely not miss ordering the garlic bread - too bad, another must, the chicken pie were sold out.

The Chicken Chop

My nephew had Chicken chop - I had a taste and it was nicly prepared. While Along had the Cantonese Kueh Teow (I think that's what it's called).

The Cantonese Kueh Teow

Kal El bukan malu-malu but it happened that I've had something heavy to eat before I was invited to this late lunch with my lovely sis and nephew so I ordered something light + another serving of garlic bread - ahahah light sangat la tu. I ordered a Chinese dish - Fried something-somthing hehehe can't remember exactly what's it's called but it is shaped like a popia (fried tofu actually - see photo below) dipped in Chili Sauce.

As usual, all our meal at this family eatery has never been disappointing. I only wish they have more of their Chicken Pie because it gets sold out too fast ler... Can or not?

Al-Fatihah

Al-Fatihah buat Hajjah Zaiton bt Zainal

Kal El rindu mummy...

3 Years in a Row

It's already the third day of Aidilfitri and I am dying of boredom. Well, it's entirely my fault for not feeling well. I spent the night of 1st Syawal alone at home, listening to the takbir on TV and from nearby mosques. I told KN to spend Raya with my in laws and not to worry about me. I could've just followed KN home but I wasn't feeling that up to the occasion and I know KN understands me well. Furthermore my dad's house is just nearby so on the morning of Raya after the Aidilfitri prayers my brother fetched me from home (yep I missed Semayang Raya 3 years in a row) and took me to mummy's resting place. I felt happy because her grave was cleaned and the grass trimmed. Thank God I have a responsible little brother who is ever willing to take over my duties ever since I got too sick to do anything.

Like I mentioned before this would be the third Aidilfitri I have spent mostly alone, sickly and not being able to do much. One year getting worse from the other - started off with some infection, then the cerebellar stroke last year and this year this. However bad things may be I am happy that at least my faily understands me and they are respecting my wish to just rest at home. My brother would come over once a day to see that I am okay, KN calls me every now and then and tells me how much I am missed (ahahah tengok la nanti our phone bill with the video calls made) but I couldn't help feeling lonely. Who wouldn't when you're alone most of the time?

Penat rasanya asyik terbaring tengok TV, movies and what not. On INternet pun tak tau nak tengok apa dah, with the crappy news the country has to offer sampaikan blog updates pun I do whenever I feel up to it, sekali banyak buat scheduled entries and posting entries yang dah lapuk but at least I am doing something to keep myself occupied and my brains moving.

I am not sure how long this will be; whether i'll get better or whether my health is going plunging down the drain- I don't know but I surely hope there would be an end to this somewhere, somehow. Whatever it is I am glad that God has shown me what I've been wanting to see and feel most of my life; love from my family. It's too bad mummy didn;t live long enough to witness our family being united but I know we started being together ever since she left us for good. Well, sometimes before good things could happen banyak benda-benda negatif yang perlu dilalui dulu kan? Perhaps I am one of those negative things; kalau aku tak sakit begini, I wouldn't know how much I am actually loved.

Alhamdulillah...

Happy Birthday Arif!

It's my one and only Nephew Arif's Bithday today!
He is 7 and loves cars...
So here you are - a dashing sports car that comes with glittering balloons...
and a lovely chick for you to enjoy!

p/s don't tell your mama the chick came with the car ok?

Holy Cow! Happy Birthday Intan!

Happy Birthday to my lovely sis-in-law Intan. May all your dreams come true... Since she loves COWS so much (I just don't get this, why can't she fancy CATS like any other girls?) Here's a couple to wish her A Very Happy Moo Birthday!

Return to Janda Baik - Che Ani's Wedding

We were at Janda Baik last weekend for my Niece's wedding.

The Groom and The Bride

The bride, Sharifah Fatimah Az-Zahra or known as Che Ani to us and the groom, Syed Harris Irsyad were celebrated in a day long Garden Concept wedding at Pak Habib's Taman Hana Wadi Hussein in Janda Baik. Che Ani is my cousin, Kak Ana's (Ummi Hana) and Abg Habib (Pak Habib @ Syed Hussein Al-Attas) daughter. This was a chance for us to meet close and distant family members to what may not be a frequent event at all. KN was busy taking photos of the surrounding while I was busy catching up with family members whom a couple I haven't met for about 20 years.

The place (Taman Hana Wadi Hussein) has tremendously changed since the last time we were here a year ago for Che Ani's engagement. The new house is now erected and there are a few more small sized houses/chalets built for family and friends.

Laksa Johor

Laksa Johore was among the Traditional Johor dishes served at the wedding. Other dishes include the Janda Baik Cendol, Laksa Asam Penang and rice. Ghazal was played throughout the ceremony and guests were allowed to picnic and swim in the ever tempting sungai within the compound of Taman Hana Wadi Hussein.

The bride stylishly arrived in a helicopter and later took off in the same helly with her groom for a spin after the 'Makan Beradab' session.
