Return to Janda Baik - Che Ani's Wedding

We were at Janda Baik last weekend for my Niece's wedding.

The Groom and The Bride

The bride, Sharifah Fatimah Az-Zahra or known as Che Ani to us and the groom, Syed Harris Irsyad were celebrated in a day long Garden Concept wedding at Pak Habib's Taman Hana Wadi Hussein in Janda Baik. Che Ani is my cousin, Kak Ana's (Ummi Hana) and Abg Habib (Pak Habib @ Syed Hussein Al-Attas) daughter. This was a chance for us to meet close and distant family members to what may not be a frequent event at all. KN was busy taking photos of the surrounding while I was busy catching up with family members whom a couple I haven't met for about 20 years.

The place (Taman Hana Wadi Hussein) has tremendously changed since the last time we were here a year ago for Che Ani's engagement. The new house is now erected and there are a few more small sized houses/chalets built for family and friends.

Laksa Johor

Laksa Johore was among the Traditional Johor dishes served at the wedding. Other dishes include the Janda Baik Cendol, Laksa Asam Penang and rice. Ghazal was played throughout the ceremony and guests were allowed to picnic and swim in the ever tempting sungai within the compound of Taman Hana Wadi Hussein.

The bride stylishly arrived in a helicopter and later took off in the same helly with her groom for a spin after the 'Makan Beradab' session.

Goodbye Dubai... For Now...

Happy Birthday Papa!

It's Papa's Birthday today. Seems June is a month full of important dates for my family. We'll be going out for lunch on Saturday (tomorrow) to celebrate Papa's Birthday today, Along's Birthday and Father's day - all in one. Wanted to take the family to Puti Bungsu Batam Nasi Padang but Papa didn't want to go all the way into KL (ahahah bukan jauh pun dari Melawati kan... but it's his birthday so kene la ikut cakap... he wants to eat Satay Samuri, he'll get Satay Samuri heheheh) Whatever it is, Papa, thank you for being a wonderful father. Although there were ups and downs in our relationship before, I am happy things have turned out the way it is now. Thanks for understanding your son. I love you very much.

BTW, KN won't be joining us for this family makan-makan again - KN's best/childhood friend is getting married next week and dia plak yang terlebih sibuk ekekekeke. Nevermind... I'll eat the Satay on your behalf ek dear?

Nasi Lemak Boss, Ampang

If you are tired of Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa in Kampung Baru and looking for an alternative, go to Nasi Lemak Boss in Ampang. It is on the same row as Warung Mak Jah where we frequent for breakfast, beside SPCA (Further up from KL International School on the way to Taman TAR)

KN's Version - Bergedil, Paru, Telor Mata and a Little Sambal

You can have Rendang Daging, Rendang Ayam, Sotong, Paru, Deep Fried Chicken, Telor Mata Kerbau/Lembu andBergedil to accompany your Nasi Lemak. Besides that the stall specializes in Masak Lemak Cili Api (which I haven't actually tried - fish maaa!)

My Version - Bergedil, Rendang Daging, Telor Mata and LOTS of Sambal

I would recommend Nasi Lemak with a combination of the Rendang Daging, Bergedil, Telor Mata Kerbau/Lembu with lots of Sambal Tumis.... sodap bah! The best things is Nasi Lemak Boss is served on a piece of Banana Leaf that would surely add irresistible fragrant to your Nasi Lemak.

Al-kisah 3 Pontianak Beradu Kehebatan...

Pontianak (c) Attivissmo.Net

Pada suatu malam 3 ekor pontianak sedang bertenggek di atas pokok sambil bergaduh tentang kehebatan masing-masing. Ketiga-tiga mengaku diri mereka hebat. Untuk menentukan siapa paling hebat, mereka pun Cuba membuktikan kehebatan masing-masing.
Pontianak A terbang dengan sepantas kilat. 15 saat kemudian balik semula ke pokok tersebut. Kelihatan Ada kesan-kesan darah di sekitar gigi Pontianak A.

Pontianak A : Kau orang nampak rumah TU?
Pontianak B : Nampak!
Pontianak C : Nampak!
Pontianak A : Satu rumah TU habis aku kerjakan.

Pontianak B pula terbang lebih pantas dari Pontianak A. 10 saat kemudian balik semula ke pokok tersebeut. Kelihatan Ada darah bukan setakat pada gigi, malah pada keseluruhan mulut pontianak tersebut.

Pontianak B : Kau orang nampak kampung TU?
Pontianak A : Nampak!
Pontianak C : Nampak!
Pontianak B : Habis satu kampung TU aku kerjakan.

Pontianak C : Kau orang nampak tembok kat hujung sana TU?
Pontianak A : Nampak!
Pontianak B : Nampak!
Pontianak C : Err... Tadi aku tak nampak...

Huhuhu...haru...

The Canteen Room, Jalan Yap Kwan Seng

The Canteen Room at Megan Avenue II, Jalan Yap Kwan Seng serves perhaps the most yummylicious Chicken Curry in the whole wide world... I am not talking about the Mamak or Indian-styled curry (like at Kanna Curry House - nothing beats the curry there of course) but the type of chicken curry you'd get at home. I would say that the food here is more to Nyonya or Kopitiam Style but definitely has more to offer than the other Kopitiams you might have visited.

Chicken Curry with White Rice

There are three choices of Chicken Curry dish you can choose from; Chicken Curry with White Rice, Bread or Roti Jala. I've never tasted the Chicken Curry with Roti Jala or Bread but I have surely for umpteenth time ordered the Chicken Curry with White Rice for lunch. What's so nice about the Chicken Curry? Yup, it has loads of potatoes and considerably good portion of Chicken Meat plus the dish is prepared with lots of (I mean LOTS of ginger).

Try it Then You'll Know how Fantastic the Chicken Curry is

Since the restaurant is very near to my office, I frequent this place for some really good and fulfilling dishes. However, there would usually be limited places for lunch and if you're late most of the dishes would be sold out and you'd have to come back the next day as the place is not open for dinner. I would usually go to the Canteen Room at around noon if and whenever I decide to have lunch there.

Nasi Goreng Canteen (Top) and Nasi Indo Siam (Bottom)

Other super delicious food I've tried @ Canteen Room are: Yam Cake, Kuey Teow Goreng, Rice served with Chicken and vege (can't recall the name), Nasi Goreng Canteen, Nasi Indo Siam (A dish with fish - bukan I yang order nih), Rolled Chee Cheong Fun (Photos of Nasi Indo Siam and Rolled Cheec Cheong Fun are copyright of Gingerlyyours) and definitely their thirst quenching Honey Lemon Drink.

Rolled Chee Cheong Fun (Top) , Yam Cake (Middle)
and Honey Lemon Drink (Bottom)

p/s I always ended up gobbling everything up before realizing I've not taken any photos of the food to make someone in Dubai drool over them and hate me more. No photos of some of the dishes mentioned till I order them again, hopefully in the near future. I just can't get over the Chicken Curry lah!

My Book 500GB

Due to the recent Hard Disk crash, it was time to upgrade to a new set of external storage. So I decided to get the Western Digital's My Book 500GB (I would actually get a 1 TB if I really could choose as this was a present from KN).

The Packaging

As usual, KN would surprise me with things I even slightly mention an interest in but since that day my HD crashed beyond repair (but thank God I could salvage most of my important files using a recovery software I purchased on the Internet called ZAR - I had to kiss RM107 goodbye but it was worth it) KN went to Low Yat to get me the My Book 500GB.

The Old (40 GB) and The New (500 GB) - My HD has GROWN!

Until now, a week later, the HD is only 10% filled... just what am I going to store in there eh? Just imagine if I had the 1 TB! Whatever it is, thanks dear for the rescue.

Installing Included Software

What I like most with this new toy of mine is the software it comes with; Backup Software, Autosync Software, HD Diagnostic Software and the best thing is, it has a lighted knight-rider like indicator telling how much space you've used on the HD (Refer video below).

Happy 38th Birthday Along

To my one and only loving and sweet Sister, Happy 38th Birthday. May all your dreams come true and be blessed with lots of love and good health.

Salem's Lot

You'll Enjoy Mr. Barlow and He'll Enjoy You

Salem's Lot was perhaps the starting point of my love for horror movies. I have watched this movie a million times but it could still give me the scare. I still remember back in 1979 (I was about 5 then) Mummy took me and along to watch this movie on a midnight show. I was sissy- scared like hell for God knows how many years after that. On our way home from the movies the three of us passed by a cemetary (the same one Mummy's at now) and how hilarious that the three of us began clumsily reciting versus from the Quran.

One of my Favourite Scenes

My favourite scenes in the movie were of course the part where the little vampire floats at the bedroom and hospital window trying to get into the his brother's and a friend's room. Another one is when the kid vampire wakes from his coffin after his funeral. Wow these were real nice scenes (with good make up effects and sound usage to scare the sh**t out of you). If you don't know what movie I am referring to here's a synopsis taken directly from Wikipedia. There are 3 Salem's Slot Movies, one made in 1979 the second in the 80s titled Return to Salem's Lot (don't watch this, it's really stupid) and a remake of the original in 2004.

The Original 1979 Salem's Lot

The Following info on Salem's Lot was Taken directly from Wikipedia

'Salem's Lot is a 1975 horror novel written by Stephen King, and was the author's second published novel. The title King originally chose for his book was Second Coming, but he later decided on Jerusalem's Lot. The publishers, Doubleday, shortened it to the current title, thinking the author's choice sounded too religious.

The 2004 Remake

The novel has been adapted into a television mini-series twice, first in1979 and years later in 2004. The novel was also adapted by the BBC as a seven part radio play in 1995.

Plot Summary

Ben Mears, a successful writer who grew up in the (fictional) town of Jerusalem's Lot, Cumberland Country, Maine (or “The Lot”, as the locals call it), has returned home following the death of his wife. Once in town he meets local high school teacher Matt Burke and strikes up a romantic relationship with Susan Norton, a young college graduate.

Ben plans to write a book about the “Marsten House”, an abandoned mansion that gave him nightmares after a bad experience with it as a child. The Marsten House was the home of '30s Gangster Hubert Marsten. Hubert, or "Hubie" was a hitman who specialized in rather unsavory hits. Hubie's profession intersected with his personal life and after his suicide, it was discovered he was responsible for the deaths of several children. Unbeknownst to Ben and his new friends, the Marsten House is about to be inhabited by the vampire Kurt Barlow. It is later revealed that Hubie Marsten had in fact communicated with the erstwhile Barlow, and that in the course of their correspondence Marsten may have extended to Barlow the necessary invitatio to come to 'Salems Lot.

Mears discovers that the Marsten House has been bought by a Mr. Straker and a Mr. Barlow, appearing as a pair of businessmen who are opening a new furniture store in town, although only Straker has yet been seen. Their arrival coincides with the disappearance of a young boy, Ralphie Glick, and the suspicious death of his brother Danny. Over the course of the book, the town is slowly taken over by vampires, reducing it to a ghost town by day as they sleep.

Ketua Penjahat...

Ben and Susan are joined by Matt Burke and his doctor Jimmy Cody, along with a young boy named Mark Petrie and the local priest, Father Callahan, to stop the vampires from dominating the town. When Mark Petrie and Susan break and enter into the Marsten House, they are found and taken prisoner by Mr. Straker. Mark is able to fatally wound Straker (who is eventually killed by the master vampire Barlow for failing his duties), but Susan is captured by Barlow before Mark has a chance to rescue her. When Mark returns to the others, the characters begin to run into several unfortunate tragedies. Susan, while held hostage by Barlow, becom

es a vampire herself, and Mears has to resort to killing her with a wooden stake. Then, Father Callahan is caught by Barlow, and Barlow forces Callahan to drink blood from his own neck, transforming Callahan into a dazed and confused human being, soon to take a bus ride out of town- his motives remaining unknown. Finally, Jimmy Cody is killed when he falls into a dark basement and is impaled by knife traps set by Barlow, while Matt Burke dies suffering from heart attacks in the nearby hospital.

Mind the Hair-do, Cherish the 70s

In the end Ben and young Mark Petrie succeed in destroying the master vampire Barlow, but, lucky to escape with their lives, are forced to leave the town to the crop of newly-created vampires. The novel's prologue, which is set shortly after the end of the story proper, describes Ben and Mark's flight across the country, ending in a seaside town in Mexico.

An epilogue has the two returning to the town a year later, intending to renew the battle. Ben, knowing that there are too many hiding places for the town's vampires, sets some underbrush on fire in an attempt to destroy as many homes as possible thus making the vampires easier to hunt. The Marsten House serves as an eventual pyre when it is burned down by Mark Petrie and Ben Mears.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast - The Broadway Musical

Finally got the tickets to the show on 1st July 2008 at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. We'll be seating At Row Q Seat 50 and 51. Can't wait!

Solo - KL Day 6 Gastronomic Adventure

We had a very filling breakfast at the hotel's cafe. I had many servings of the very delicious Tempe Goreng with Sambal Kicap and Cili Padi. Yummy! We also had the omelette which was not bad at all.

Our Breakfast from the Buffet Line... Tempe and Endless Tempe... Heavenly!

In the afternoon, also at the Baron Indah Hotel's Cafe, I ordered Beef Rawon Rice served with tempe and century egg and sambal. KN on the other hand ordered the Baron Indah Fried Rice (just like the name, Indah (means Beautiful) the Nasi Goreng was so much better tasting than my Rawon Beef Rice. As for drinks, I had the ever favourite Avocado Chocolate (especially love it when in Indonesia) while KN had Coke. KN didn't really like the taste of Indonesia's Famous, Jasmine-like Teh Botol so ended up ordering Coke nearly every day while in Indonesia)

Beef Rawon Rice with Century Egg, Fried Tempe and Sambal

Baron Idah Fried Rice - Nice!

We had Srabi (a traditional Solo dish) bought from it's factory. We even witnessed the Srabi making process from the glass walled factory kitchen. Srabi tasted very coconuty, very rich and considerably sweet. We bought 2 boxes of Srabi to be given to our family back home and some other traditional tidbits as souvenirs before going home.
